Safe and Happy in Kathmandu

We have arrived in Kathmandu! After 48 hours of travel, we were warmly welcomed at the airport by Bishnu, who will be leading our trek in two weeks. Bishnu is a mutual friend of Cathy's (our midwifery professor) and Yarrow's friend in Nelson. We are so happy to be here, and have managed to upload some photos of our journey to share with you.

When we arrived in Kathmandu, we were taken to our hotel which turned out to be not as lovely as it looked on the internet. But after such a long journey, we were happy to just sleep. We rolled out our sleeping bags and we think we escaped bed bug free. This morning we promptly checked into the lovely Tibet Guest House, which has been our best decision yet!

We were unable to start work today at the birth centre because there is a nation-wide strike with large protests. This means there is no transportation in the city. We're hopeful that we'll be able to start our clinical placement tomorrow. We made the most of our day off and spent it reading and eating delicious Nepali food.

Looking forward to starting at the birth centre and sending love to everyone at home,

Lauren and Yarrow
